The procedure rhytidectomy (facelift) addresses ptosis (gravity) which is inevitable over time, rejuvenating and beautifying the lower/ mid-face and neck by reversing the changes that occur with ageing. The "S" refers to the shape of the incision in front of the ear. This procedure is suitable for both men and women.
The Technique
Nothing stops the ageing process however we can interrupt a natural sequence of events and reset the clock to improve the most visible signs of ageing. The surgery involves removal of excess skin, tightening underlying muscles, re-draping the skin of your face and neck. This procedure is known as the “S-Lift”.
The aim is to create a fresh rejuvenated look without changing the normal facial expression. The procedure is tailored to the individual and maybe combined with additional procedures for e.g. Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty), Chin Liposuction or Skin Resurfacing.
The operation is carried out under local anesthetic and oral sedation and takes approximately 4-5 hours involving incisions placed inconspicuously in the hair of the temple and in the front of the ear continuing behind the ear (hence the “S-Lift”) this followed by the dissection and tightening of the suspensory supporting soft tissue structure of the face and neck – SMAS. The skin is dissected and re-draped to produce a natural look with better quality scars by avoiding excess skin tension and use extremely fine sutures.
The procedure is performed under oral sedation and local anaesthetic.
Sutures are removed at 7 days. Bruising is very individual therefore take this into consideration when planning to return to work.
Risks and Complications
Will be discussed in length at time of consultation and vary considerably from client to client. It may include nerve injury, bleeding, infection and possible scarring.
